Star Kids

Lukas Grodzicki
Disqualified because he was too young.

Poland is an amazing country with, as it seems, an unlimited supply of windsurfing talent. The latest revelation is 12 year old Lukas Grodzicki, POL 738, who wiped out the entire Aloha fleet (under 17 youth class) during the World Championships in Ostia, Italy, last August. Lukas finished second only to find himself being disqualified for being too young!! (Why he was allowed to race one year earlier during the same World Championships in Murcia, will always remain a mystery). Results prior to disqualification Lukas lives in Gdansk in the North of Poland and is a member of SKZ Hestia in Sopot. The excellent achievement in Italy was certainly not due to luck or light winds as his impressive honour list shows. In his own words: This is my windsurfing career:

  • In 1998, I started windsurfing in UKS class ( a Polish kids one design class), that was my first board.
  • In 1999, at all UKS regattas in Poland, I was first.
  • In 2000 year at the international Polish Championship of UKS class in Skarlin, I was first. After that I started in the Aloha class.
  • Also in 2000 at the World Championship in Murcia in Aloha classic I was 15 th position in the minimes division (under 15).
  • In 2001 at the Nord Sea Cup in Wimereux in Aloha Clasic, minimes, I was second.
  • At the Youth Olympic of Poland in Poznan, at Kiekrz lake, I was on 4 th position (that is the main and the biggest polish competition, the other name is Polish Championship). it was in Aloha Classic to 16 years old.
  • In Polish Cup of Aloha Classic to 16 years in 2001 was 6 th.
  • From 19 to 26 August 2001, I was in World Championship of Windsurfing in Ostia and I had bad luck

It will be interesting when Lukas enters the Formula Windsurfing scene. We are sure that here is a future World Champion.
